A cheerful elementary school hallway in the early morning, seen from a low angle looking upward at Matt as he ducks through the front doorway, his massive frame barely clearing the frame. Warm autumn sunlight streams in behind him. Estephen stands just inside the hall, one clawed hand gripping Matt's elbow, scales blazing a vivid anxious yellow, both wide eyes fixed on the hallway ahead. The corridor is normal and tidy — bulletin boards, lockers, a bake sale flyer — except for a faint strange glow flickering from deep at the far end where the hallway bends. Dust motes hang in the morning light. A small potted plant near the door is tipping over unnoticed.

ROBOBOSS-3000 Takes Over the School!

Monday morning. Sunshine. Birds. Matt was feeling pretty good. He ducked through the school doors he always had to duck and looked around. Same hallways. Same lockers. Same bulletin board with the same flyer about the bake sale that had been there since October. Normal. Then Estephen grabbed his elbow. "Matt," he said. His scales had gone the yellow of a very worried banana. "Something is wrong." Matt sniffed the air. He smelled something strange and metallic, like batteries and burnt toast. From somewhere deep in the school came a sound. Whirr. Clunk. WHIRR. Then: "ALL STAFF REPORT TO THE GYM. THIS IS NOT A DRILL." Matt and Estephen looked at each other. "That," said Estephen, "is not the principal."
