Bright urban sidewalk scene under a sunny sky. Estephen leans against a brick wall left of frame, wiry frame in faded black Pogues tee and frayed daisy dukes, worn cowboy boots crossed at the ankle, scales cycling a lazy cool pink-cyan-green, large neon yellow eyes half-lidded in pure effortless coolness. Gorillionaire stands center-frame, massive in white linen suit and emerald vest, both brushed-steel robotic hands hoisting a gleaming carbon-fiber briefcase triumphantly overhead, amber eyes wide with pride. Between them, a swirling golden oval portal crackles into existence in the air, radiating warm light and wisps of strange smoke. Gorillionaire leans too far forward into it, tipping off balance. A food cart vendor in the background stares with a hot dog halfway to his mouth.

Estephen and Gorillionaire Meet Genghis Khan

Estephen is doing what he does best: leaning against a wall and being extremely cool. His scales cycle slow pink, cyan, green. His cowboy boots click on the sidewalk. He has nowhere important to be, and he is very good at it. Then Gorillionaire shows up. "New briefcase," Gorillionaire announces. He holds it up with both robotic hands. It is silver. It is magnificent. It is beeping. "Why," says Estephen, "is it beeping?" Gorillionaire looks at it. He frowns. He presses a button. A golden swirl opens in the air. Spinning. Crackling. Smelling, somehow, like horses and old maps. "Hmm," says Gorillionaire. Then he falls in. Estephen grabs his tail. That is a mistake.
